Let’s start off with the BIGGEST misconception nearly every business owner have.

What business do you think you’re in? If the answer is:

  • Website design

  • Marketing

  • Business development

  • Anything else related to client work

You’re wrong!

Most people fail to succeed because they have the mindset of a technician. The better you are at your craft the more work you will get. Right?

I mean it should be that way, but it just isn’t.

I’ll never forget the day I had this realization for the first time. I won’t name any names, but a few years ago I was looking at the website of a competitor who is far more successful than me.

Their websites were terrible!

But they had tapped into the needs of a target market, helped solved their problem, and got rewarded with little green certificates of appreciation.

This won’t apply to all of you, but I’d like to consider the possibility that you’re having trouble selling websites because your market isn’t buying them.

At least, that’s not their perceived need.

This is the trend shift. For a long time, people thought a new website would solve their problems. So they’d spend thousands on a new website to scratch the itch.

As website design has become more commoditized and therefore accessible to more people, this belief has become less common.

These days people know they’re in pain, but they’re not necessarily sure a new website is going to solve their ailment.
